This week we have been focusing on our school value of Health and Happiness. I started the week with our whole school remote assembly where I read ‘The Little Donkey’, a lovely Christmas story.
It tells the tale of a little donkey who decides to set out on a journey to see Jesus, the new-born king.
The donkey faces many challenges on his journey including rocky paths, steep hills and other animals who do not treat him with kindness; in fact they judge him, mock him and treat him with disdain. However, the little donkey faces these challenges with bravery and shows the Learning Power of resilience, bouncing back and determined to achieve his desired goal. When he does finally make it to the stable, he is welcomed with complete joy! I set the challenge for the children to strive to be extra kind to others during the week (unlike the animals in the story) and see what they could do to bring joy to others.
On Tuesday I popped into FSU. The children were all busy with their learning and as I walked into the Yellow Room, a small group of children were stood around a display of a Christmas tree. They were pointing at the decorations and chatting to one another, when all of a sudden Isobel started to sing. In her beautiful voice, she sang Away in a Manger. She didn’t even think about it, it was just spontaneous.
All the other children stopped, as did I, and just stood and listened, listened to one little girl sing. It was truly magical. As soon as she stopped, she was off playing, along with all the other children, with no awareness that what she had just done, that one moment had brought many people a lot of joy. Thank you, Isobel!
Have a lovely weekend.
