Reception child asking about a Year 2 child who was using a Chromebook

“When will they be finished on the Coronavirus Book?”
This week we welcomed back many of our Year 6 children. It has been wonderful to see them again face to face. They have been a real credit to their families and to the school, acting with maturity and abiding by all the new structures and procedures in place to try and keep them safe. Our Key Worker Pods are settling into their new defined areas and again following the instructions that they need to.
Next week, we will welcome back many of our Big Acorns: we are looking forward to seeing you Big Acorns.
However, not all of our children will be returning. Some children whose year groups we can invite back are not returning as they are needing to shield, either to safeguard themselves, or to safeguard family members.
This week, the government announced that schools will not be able to welcome back any other year groups; acknowledging the fact that schools do not have the capacity to facilitate this safely due to staffing and/or space restrictions.
This means that our Year 2,3,4, and 5 children will not be returning until September, unless government guidance changes again. This has been met with sadness by myself and my whole team. I know this is the right thing; there is no way we could have everyone back with the guidance as it is now. The priority remains the safety of our children, parents, my staff, and the wider community.
As we move forward together, I am going to suggest some changes to our newsletter. I can speak with and listen to the children who are in the school; I want to be able to hear the voices of those I cannot see face to face yet.
As you will have noticed, the teachers have been doing the ‘weekly roundup’ for their classes. I would like the children to start doing this if possible. I would like to invite children from Years 2,3,4 and 5 to submit their ‘weekly roundup’.
This report needs to be limited to 6 sentences and be a synopsis of your week. Submissions need to be submitted to me by 12 noon on a Thursday: epipe@topsham.devon.sch.uk. I will read and reply to each one (if possible 😊) and will choose one from each year group to be published in our newsletter that week. If any Little Acorns would like to submit a “round up” please know I will welcome these too. Let’s give it a try, shall we?
Please remember that even though lockdown measures are being relaxed in some aspects, we still need to take care: working from home if we can, only going out when we need to, staying socially distanced, self-isolating if we or anyone we are living with is showing symptoms of CV19 and continuing to follow government guidance. Work may be taking place to limit the risk, in some areas, BUT the risk has not yet been eliminated; anywhere. We are not out of the woods yet. No one wants a ‘second spike’ so please, please continue to take care of yourselves and your children.
Have a good weekend
