Child Protection
The head teacher is the designated officer for child protection and domestic violence. The deputy head teacher is the deputy safeguarding officer. The school takes its duties seriously within this area and prides itself on the high quality care and guidance given to children. Regular training for staff ensures that we keep up to date with the latest requirements. Our Child Protection Policy can be found within the policy sections of the website. The school has a duty to report any concerns about the welfare of children to the appropriate agency.
We work in strong partnership with a variety of agencies for the benefit of children and families including the school Nurse and Educational Welfare Officer. We have access to a range of services which can provide support and advice where needed and this complements a range of family workshops and events.

Operation Encompass
The school has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident. Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident. We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved. |

E-Safety
Children and young people today are using the immense power of digital media to explore, connect, create, and learn in ways never before imagined. With this power, young people have extraordinary opportunities, and yet they face many potential pitfalls.
At The Topsham School we seek to ensure children are both safeguarded and educated about the potential risks associated with online activity.
Within our policy section you will find our policies on e-safety and acceptable use. Our curriculum section provides an outline of our programme of teaching to ensure children develop into digitally literate and safe users of a variety of media and platforms.
Information and advice for parents can be found within the CEOP website:

Reporting a concern
While using different devices, you might see something which worries you. If you have a concern about something you have seen online, please tell a responsible adult. Remember, it is important to report your concerns and tell an adult to keep yourself and your friends safe.
